TapVoter vs Competitors
How does TapVoter compare to other voting platforms?
TapVoter offers professional election features completely free, while competitors charge hundreds or thousands per election:
- vs JotForm: JotForm limits you to 100 submissions/month on free plan, then $39-129/month
- vs ElectionRunner: Free for only 20 voters, then $19-800+ per election
- vs Others: Most require expensive subscriptions or per-election fees
Why is TapVoter better than Google Forms for voting?
While Google Forms is free, it lacks essential election features:
- No anonymous voting - requires Google account or collects emails
- Can't prevent duplicate votes effectively
- No secure access codes for voter verification
- No ranked-choice voting support
- Limited customization for professional elections
TapVoter provides secure, anonymous voting with professional features while remaining completely free.

What voting methods does TapVoter support?
TapVoter supports 5 voting methods:
- Direct: Voters select one candidate per position. The candidate with the most votes wins.
- Ranked Choice: Voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate gets a majority, the lowest-ranked candidate is eliminated and their votes are redistributed until someone wins a majority.
- STAR: Score Then Automatic Runoff. Voters score candidates 0-5, the top two go to an automatic runoff decided by voter preferences.
- Approval: Voters approve of as many candidates as they like. The candidate with the most approvals wins.
- Multi-Winner: Multiple candidates can win positions based on vote totals.
Polls
What are TapVoter Polls?
TapVoter Polls are quick polls for gathering opinions from your audience. There's a free tier for basic use, plus a Pro plan at $4.99/mo or $49/yr that unlocks advanced features including:

What's the difference between Elections and Polls?
Elections use voter keys for secure, authenticated voting with 5 voting methods (Direct, Ranked Choice, STAR, Approval, and Multi-Winner). They're ideal for formal organizational votes, board elections, and any scenario requiring verified voter identity and one-vote-per-person guarantees.
Polls are lighter-weight for quick opinion gathering. They support optional Turnstile verification to prevent bot abuse, and are perfect for surveys, feedback collection, and informal group decisions. Polls have a free tier and a Pro plan with advanced features.

How do voters access the ballot?
Voters can access their ballot in three ways — no account creation required:
- Voter key: Enter their unique 9-character access code (format: XXX-XXX-XXX) at app.tapvoter.com/vote
- Direct link: Click the election's unique voting link (includes the voter key as a URL parameter for one-click access)
- QR code: Scan the election's QR code from the printable election poster or voter key cards
Administrators can generate printable election posters and voter key cards from the Export tab.

- Voter keys are one-time use and expire when the election ends
- Public audit log with a unique receipt code for every ballot
- Public transparency log for verifiable election results
- Elections cannot be modified once voting begins
- Completed elections cannot be reopened or revived
- All data encrypted in transit via Cloudflare HTTPS
- Altcha proof-of-work CAPTCHA for election access
- Cloudflare Turnstile bot protection for polls
- Rate limiting on vote endpoints (KV-based sliding window)

Can I export my data from TapVoter?
Yes! TapVoter provides comprehensive export options from the Export tab in the Election Command Center:
- Election Results CSV: Complete results with vote tallies, percentages, and winners per position
- Audit Log CSV: Timestamped record of every ballot cast with receipt codes
- Voter Keys CSV: All voter keys or unused keys only — useful for mail merge
- Official Election Report: Printable certified report with full results and configuration
- Results Image: Downloadable PNG summary of election results
- Privacy First: Exports include aggregated results but never link individual votes to voter identities
All CSV exports include election metadata and are timestamped in the election's timezone. Poll and quiz exports are available for TapVoter Pro subscribers.
How long is my data stored?
For your privacy and data protection, TapVoter automatically deletes all election data, free-tier poll data, and free-tier quiz data 90 days after the election ends, poll closes, or quiz closes. This includes:
- All vote records, quiz responses, and election/poll/quiz results
- Voter keys, quiz keys, and participation data
- Candidate photos, poll images, and uploaded files
- Election/poll/quiz configuration and settings
Important details:
- Your dashboard shows a color-coded expiry countdown (red when 7 days or less remain)
- Download your results and any important data before the 90-day expiry
- Deleted data cannot be recovered
- TapVoter Pro subscribers get extended data retention while their subscription is active
This automatic deletion policy ensures data minimization and protects voter privacy in compliance with best practices.
Can I share election management access with my team?
Yes! Pro subscribers can create up to 5 named collab links per election or poll. Each collab link gives a team member full management access to the command center.
- Named collaborators: Each link is labeled with the person's name (e.g., “John — COMELEC Secretary”) for clear accountability
- Optional passcode: Add an extra layer of security with a passcode on any collab link
- Activity log: Every action taken by collaborators is recorded — settings changes, voter key generation, election launch — with timestamps and the collaborator's name
- Revocation: Revoke any collab link instantly if someone leaves the team or access is compromised
Collab links work for elections, polls, and quizzes. The activity log is visible only to the election owner in the Settings tab.
